Why profile-based weighting

A simple list of 8 equally weighted criteria often produces misleading results. Strategic understanding matters far more for a B2B consulting mandate than pricing transparency; creative quality matters far more for a brand advertising campaign than tooling. The weighting has to fit the mandate type.

Hence the three profiles: Strategy-heavy (B2B, SaaS, consulting, corporate), Creative-heavy (brand, advertising, lifestyle, premium), Balanced (unclear or hybrid mandates). The same set of pitches can differ by 10-25 points between profiles — which often changes the winner.

How the tool helps you

The tool forces you to judge every pitch against the same criteria instead of just recalling first impressions. That is especially valuable with 3-5 pitches, which blur together after several weeks of pitching. Note the score after each pitch — at the end you compare soberly rather than emotionally.

The score is a sanity check, not a substitute for the final decision. If your gut feeling strongly contradicts the highest score, criteria not captured here are often at play (cultural fit, chemistry with the lead contact). But when score and gut feeling agree, you have a better-founded decision.

Frequently asked questions about pitch scoring

How useful is quantitative pitch scoring?+
Quantitative scoring tools structure the decision but do not replace gut feeling. They help most when comparing several pitches that are not directly comparable — you force yourself to judge each criterion critically instead of relying on the overall impression. The score is a sanity check, not the sole decision criterion.
Why 3 weighting profiles?+
Strategy-heavy for B2B/SaaS/consulting/corporate (strategy and cases dominate), Creative-heavy for brand/advertising/lifestyle (creative quality and production depth dominate), Balanced as the default for unclear mandate types. The different weighting often changes the winner between two pitches.
How objectively can I score creative quality?+
Creative is subjective. But in a comparison of several pitches, your relative assessment is still informative. If you give agency A a 7 for creative quality and agency B a 9, that says something about your preference, even if an outsider would score differently. The tool reflects your view, not an objective truth.
Should I always score all 8 criteria?+
Yes, all 8. If you skip criteria (e.g. reporting not relevant for a one-off logo project), the default values distort the result. For genuinely irrelevant criteria (e.g. tracking setup for a print mandate), give the pitch the maximum value on that criterion so it has no negative impact.
Is my score saved?+
Yes, locally in your browser. The profile choice and all slider values are stored in localStorage. On reload or when you come back the next day, you will see the last state. If you want to compare several agencies, note the scores externally (e.g. a screenshot) before starting the next assessment.
What is a good pitch score?+
Above 75 is a strong recommendation — the agency is structurally a fit for your requirements. 50-75 is solid but with reservations — clarify the weakest criteria in a follow-up meeting. Below 50 you should reconsider the decision or look at more providers.
